A modder named Ainz explains that enhancing the mod “meant giving Zelda appropriate dialogue, changing music and other tweaks to improve the game.” Designing a new title screen and a variety of outfits (including the Gerudo, Flamebreaker, and Fierce Deity sets) were also part of this.Įxcitingly, Ainz suggests that the playable Zelda mod may be completed soon, teasing that “We plan on having an initial release really soon so it’s a bit of a secret.” The modder also revealed that while the mod would first be released publicly on the Nintendo Wii U and the CEMU emulator (which allows Wii U games to be played on Windows PC, a Nintendo Switch release could also happen. Their work includes completing the Zelda character model, as the female character, who only appears in the official title in cutscenes, had a character model that was missing limbs. The project involves more than 20 people, who are working together to make changes in order to fit Zelda into the game. The Breath of the Wild nearly had a playable female character in an official capacity, however, the developer dropped the idea, citing the balance of the Triforce. The Zelda Conversion Project not only replaces Link’s character model with Princess Zelda, but it also adds new dialogue, music, and gives Zelda several outfits to equip as well. I would view it as a great shame to lose this in favour of the more standard system of go here, do this, leave that way.A team of modders for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild makes Zelda a playable character. BotW created a world that felt far more natural and flowing than any overworld previous, likewise with the style of combat and puzzle solving. There needs to be a blend, hence my point about balance.

I certainly wouldn't be appreciative of a full reversal to SS and TP style dungeons though. The screenshots demonstrate however that it can work if done correctly. Having more gran dungeons featuring natural obstacles such as lava streams may well have been in contrast to their design philosophy at the time. Whilst I never had any particular problems with the way dungeons were handle din BotW, there is certainly a balance to hit. Perhaps it was just the contrast of SS artstyle versus BotW Link that was putting me off. Whilst I like the look of some of the screenshots in the first link, seeing an SS dungeon ported in didn't bode well with me. It'll certainly be interesting to see if they go with a more traditional dungeon style for BotW2.
